Introduction to Islam

Islam is the world's second largest religion but the most rapid growing one. The larger Muslim populations center in Asia, with the largest community in Indonesia. About 20% live in Saudi Arabia and most Africans are Muslims. Minority populations are picking up in Korea, China and Europe. So, there are now Muslims in every country of a plethora of races and nationalities! It is projected that the number of Muslims will rise from 1.6 billion in 2014 to 2.8 billion in 2050, surpassing the Christian population.

Islam is seen as the latest version sent by God through Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him). "Islam" simply means peace through submission and worship to The One and Only True God, in arabic known as Allah. Muslims believe that Islam is the one true latest religion wherein Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) is the last messenger and the teachings of God are written in the Qur'an. It is seen as the actual word of God.

There are 6 beliefs in Islamic faith. Namely, Muslims must believe in (1) One God, (2) his Prophets, (3) his sacred Books, (4) his Angels, (5) his Decrees and (6) the Final Judgment.

Five pillars of practice in Islam must be undertaken wholeheartedly to be considered a true Muslim. They are namely (1) Shahadah, (2) Salat, (3) Sawm, (4) Zakat, and (5) Hajj.

Shahadah الشهادة
