Religious Rites and Rituals in Singapore People are Expected to Respect in Funerals
ISLAM FUNERALS IN SINGAPORE
Muslims’ preparation for death is that the body of a deceased Muslim should be buried right after the time of death. This means that funeral planners should be contacted for preparations (i.e. service and burial) to begin immediately. Cleansing, washing & shrouding will be done by a Tukang Mandi for Muslim deceased before burial (Singapore Muslim Casket and Marble Contractor Pte Ltd, 2014). Afterwhich, prayers known as salat-al-jenazah will be performed by an imam (i.e. religious leader who leads prayers in a mosque for the Muslim people) together with the family members. Finally the deceased will be transported to the Muslim cemetery for burial. Afterwhich, immediate family members will welcome visitors. The Muslim community may provide food for them at the early stages of the mourning period (usually 1st three days). Mourning may last up to 40 days, subjected by the family.
